Hernias
Hernias occur in most cases because of a weakness in the abdominal wall or from excessive strain on the abdominal wall. There are different types of hernias; the following are the most common:
- Inguinal hernia (near the groin)
- Femoral hernia ( below the groin)
- Umbilical hernia (in the bellybutton)
- Incisional hernia (along a previous incision)
The symptoms can range from a painless lump to nausea and vomiting.
Treatment:
Generally, all hernias should be repaired to avoid the possibility of incarceration or strangulation. Surgical repair involves removal of the hernia sac; some hernias can be done laparoscopic, your surgeon will discuss with you what the best plan of care is. |
